PANO – Engineering Section 576 of the Lang Son Provincial Command is assigned to find and clear UXOs (unexploded ordnances) in Na Nua Hamlet, Quang Khanh Commune, Trang Dinh District.

According to La Dau Khen, Chairman of the Quang Khanh People’s Committee, Na Nua Hamlet, bordering China, is home to 53 households with 201 people. At present, post-war UXOs were left on mountain sides. “Upon receiving news of sappers’ arrival to defuse UXOs, local residents are very joyful”, Khen said.

In spite of bad weather and danger, troops of the unit were determined to take challenges in their stride to fulfill their assigned task.

On an area of 3.3ha of cultivation land, they searched and defused 115 UXOs for bringing land into cultivation, building a border patrol path and implementing the Government’s Project 120.

Besides, troops from the Engineering Section 576 strictly observed regulations on the border line, land markers and local customs, effectively carried out the public relations work, worked together with local authorities to mobilize people to implement the Party and State’s guidelines and policies as well as get rid of unsound customs, and helped the locality repair and extend a 400m road and prevent epidemic diseases.

In a small newly-built house, Second-Lieutenant Ly Van Tho, Head of the Section 576, said that the unit’s troops always try their best to fulfill their missions though they know unexpected dangers from UXO clearance.

Despite many difficulties, obstacles and dangers for their upcoming tasks, sappers are determined to revive “dead lands” to help local people farm and develop their socio-economy.
