PANO - The Steering Board 138 under the Defence Ministry organized a meeting to summarize Program 138 in the army and to put forwards the tasks in the second half of 2012 on July 30th in Hanoi.
Senior Lieutenant-General Nguyen Thanh Cung, Deputy Defence Minister, Head of the Steering Board 138 chaired the meeting.
The Program 138 was to implement the program to prevent crimes, HIV/AIDS, social evils, drug trafficking, corruption, smuggling, trade fraud, fake products which have been produced and traded in army units and in areas managed by the army.
Accordingly, in the first half of this year, army units have bettered their tasks of propagandizing, disseminating and educating laws, maintaining “Day of law in the army”, efficiently improving legal knowledge among troops.
Attentively, at borders and seas, Border Guard units and Marine Police force have disclosed 3,697 illegal cases and arrested 9,795 suspects. Some 1,704 cases and 3,331 suspects have been resolved. Nearly VND 7 billion seized from cases has been handed to the State Budget while 127 suspects of foreign nationalities were expelled from Vietnam.
Moreover, Marine Police units have carried out 55 patrols for law enforcement, inspected 776 boats and ships, fined 305 boats for violation and donated nearly VND 2 billion to the State Budget.
Meanwhile, for drug crime prevention, Border Guards and Marine Police have uncovered 578 cases and arrested 801 suspects, seized 58.2kg and 47 heroin cakes, 92,180 tablets of and 8.5kg of methamphetamine and other crime evidence.
In his concluding speech, Senior Lieutenant-General Nguyen Thanh Cung asked army units to further determine their missions, to promote responsibility in leadership, management, operation and mobilization of army units to join hands in carrying out Program 138’s contents, to implement the work of emulation and reward timely and efficiently.
Senior Lieutenant-General Nguyen Thanh Cung also stressed that Border Guards and Marine Police should team up with relevant forces, be active in the fight against all sorts of crimes, frequently reinforce and build strong forces, boost law education and crime, social evil prevention in and outside the army.
