Construction of a Vietnam-Republic of Korea (RoK) peace village began in Tam Dan village, central Quang Nam province’s Phu Ninh district on Dec. 16.
Once operational in 2009, the 27 billion VND village, including flats, medical treatment rooms and a community hall, is expected to accommodate 100 Agent Orange/dioxin victims.
According to the President of the RoK wounded soldiers association, Kang Dal Shin, Quang Nam is one of two Vietnam’ central provinces worst affected by toxic chemicals that were sprayed by the US army during the past war.
This is also the place where a large number of RoK soldiers were stationed during the Vietnam war, he said, adding that the village is built in a bid to healing the war’s wounds and promote Vietnam-RoK ties for common prosperity.
