The world to Vietnam
Light for ill-fated children
QĐND - Sunday, July 22, 2012, 21:31 (GMT+7)
VND 504 million given to Vietnam Association of Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin by Mr. Juergen Eichhorn

PANO - Mr. Juergen Eichhorn and Mr. Paul Christanell have opened a restaurant in Hai Duong province to raise fund for Vietnamese children suffering from Agent Orange/Dioxin for three years now.

Born in Germany and married to a Vietnamese woman, Juergen Eichhorn considers Vietnam a country which nutures his warm family and he has reserved his deep sentiment for Vietnam and its people.

Juergen Eichhorn’s heart was torn to see the sufferings  of those who had been tormented by Agent Orange/Dioxin especially children and he had decided to open this restaurant so that he could do something though modest to help partly ease these ill-fated children .

His friend, Paul Christanell and he himself have created an uninterrupted link between Germany and other countries to seek for more support from benefactors. He is in charge of the mission in Vietnam while his friend acts a bridge with Italy-located Mission Office.

Over the past three years, the two men have collected more than US $130,000 which have been later presented to disabled and poor children as well as families with adversity in Vietnam.

Once a year, the donation fund is handed over to social patronage organizations to support disadvantaged Vietnamese children.

This year, VND 504 million has been directly given to Vietnam Association of Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin (VAVA) by Mr. Juergen Eichhorn.

Under the MoU on the implementation of the Project, “Supporting Vietnamese victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin”, signed between his Ristorante Italia Hai Duong Company and VAVA on July 16th, seven houses of compassion will be built in Hai Duong for homeless children. Moreover, scholarships will be given to 20 poor children, free health check-ups and medicines will be offered to 200 victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin while 15 families of victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin will receive financial aid.

As Mr. Juergen Eichhorn confided, he felt happy as joining hands in assisting children suffering from Agent Orange/Dioxin and pleased at what VAVA had been doing for such children. Though what he did was the smallest light for these children and at the same time the evidence that everybody has the right to live.
