A meeting was held in Rome on February 26 for 50 Italian families which have adopted Vietnamese children.

Vietnamese Ambassador to Italy Dang Khanh Thoai described the gathering as a good chance for those families to share their happiness. He expressed his hope that their children will become good Italian citizens and affirmed that Vietnam will closely work with Italian agencies to accelerate procedures for child adoption.

He said the embassy will help organize various activities to strengthen ties with the adoptive families in Rome.

Chairman of the adoptive families association Carlo Silvan said all Vietnamese children adopted have integrated quickly into Italian society.

Dentist Christian Appodia who was adopted nearly 40 years ago said he always remembers Vietnam and wants to adopt Vietnamese children.

Colonel Gabriele Degrandi is very proud of their two adopted Vietnamese daughters who he said are very intelligent, agile and sentimental.

Like Gabriele, many other adoptive families said that they will create the best conditions for Vietnamese children to gain a better understanding of their homeland.

During the gathering, participants watched films on Vietnam’s land and people and its traditional culture and food.
