Vietnam-US cooperation in anti-drug training and experience exchanges
QĐND - Wednesday, September 26, 2007, 20:57 (GMT+7)
A training course on anti-drug trafficking activities was held in Hanoi from September 24-28, 2007 by the Anti-Drugs Prevention Permanent Office under the Police Ministry in coordination with the US Embassy in Vietnam and the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) under the US Justice Department.
The programme lies within a protocol under the Vietnam-US drug prevention agreement, sharing experience in drug prevention, and especially measures to combat drug trafficking by air.
In recent years, the Vietnamese government has carried out a series of comprehensive and pro-active measures to combat drug deals of both national and international scale; at the same time called on other countries and international organisations to assist Vietnam in drug prevention.
Since the protocol was signed, the two-sided cooperation in the sphere has seen new steps. Several themes within the protocol have been successfully carried out by the Vietnamese General Department of Police and DEA.
Vietnamese anti-drugs forces have learnt a number of valuable lessons from training courses and experience exchanges, and then successfully applied them to their missions.
